A missing dog who was washed away by a fast-flowing swelling river has been found alive almost a week later- on his owner’s birthday. 

Bobby, an XL Bully Trindle American Bully, is an extremely rare breed and one of only two in the whole country.

While out on a walk in Cumbria with ex-soldier owner Simon Kitchen, 51, Bobby bolted and disappeared after his owner slipped down a hill.   

Bobby was beneath the fast-flowing River Rawthey near Sedbergh in Cumbria that was swollen by torrential rain, according to the Metro.

Mr Kitchen reported Bobby missing and spent six days looking for him.

He feared he had lost his dog and would never see him again. 

On his 51st birthday he got a call from Farmgate Veterinary Surgery in Sedbergh, Cumbria.

They told him Bobby had been found by a farmer, Nick Fecitt, a mile and half downstream in Dowbiggin, according to the Mirror,

Mr Fecitt saw him sitting on a rock in the river and waded in to rescue him. 

Bobby was reunited with his elated owner and promptly gave him a big hug.  

He bounded into his lap while Mr Kitchen got choked up as he was convinced his dog had died.

Simon said: ‘When I got the call from the vet I was over the moon.

‘I thought it was going to be the worst birthday ever. 

‘But it was the best one ever.’

Mr Kitchen was choked up when he reunited with his pooch as he was convinced he had died

A spokesman for the vets said: ‘So happy to say that Bobby and his owner, Simon have finally been reunited.

‘It’s Simon’s birthday today and I don’t think he could’ve had a better present.

‘Simon couldn’t speak, he was so choked up. He was convinced that the dog was dead.’

What is an American bully? 

The American Bully is a recently formed companion dog breed, originally recognized in 2004 by the American Bully Kennel Club and followed by the European Bully Kennel Club in 2008. It has been recognized by the United Kennel Club since July 15, 2013. The breed has not been recognized by the American Kennel Club. There are different varieties of the breed.
