A father-of-three has been named by police after he was found at a fishing pond in Sheffield as a man is charged with murder.  

Kevin Hodkinson was rushed from the pond off Herries Road in Shirecliffe to hospital by paramedics and died a short time later. 

Police said they received a concerning report from the scene at 9.21pm on Wednesday for the 50-year-old in the water. 

And officers last night charged Kieran Hayes, 33, with murder and remanded him in custody. 

Tributes were paid to Kevin by his family who say he was a ‘much loved’ son, father, grandfather, brother, partner, uncle and friend.

In a statement released by Kevin’s family they said: ‘Kevin was a much loved son, dad, grandad, brother, partner, uncle and friend. We are devastated to lose him.’

A friend of his Barry Ball, 85, told Examiner Live he saw him that day: ‘We were chatting about our day and how many fish we had caught.’

And Mr Ball added: ‘He was a very nice chap and I’m shocked to hear what’s happened.’

The members-only club that runs Oxspring Dam posted on Facebook on Thursday: ‘The pond will be closed for a short period due to a police incident last night so please don’t try to get on. I will let you all know when we are back open.’

South Yorkshire police said they are investigating the circumstances into Kevin’s death and have charged a man with murder in connection to the Kevin’s death.

Hayes, 33, of Oxspring Bank Road in Sheffield will appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning.

The statement from police says: ‘A 50 year-old man who died in Sheffield last week has been named, as his family pay tribute to him.

‘At 9.21pm on 16 June emergency services were called to reports of cause for concern of a man at a fishing pond off Herries Road in the Shirecliffe area of Sheffield.

‘The man, now named as father of three Kevin Hodkinson from Sheffield was taken to hospital via ambulance but sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
