Ben Fordham sensationally quits Australian Ninja Warrior in SHOCK move to focus on 2GB radio show

Earlier this month, 2GB’s Ben Fordham was crowned the king of breakfast radio after beating The Kyle and Jackie O Show for a second time in a row.

And on Wednesday, Ben, 44, gave Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson a wake up call when he announced his decision to quit his hosting duties on Australian Ninja Warrior.

‘I am not going to be hosting Australian Ninja Warrior going forward because I found that it placed so much pressure on my family and on the breakfast show,’ he told The Daily Telegraph.

‘I’ve decided that it would be better for me just to focus on the main game, which is breakfast radio,’ he added.

Ben went on to add that for the sake of his ‘mental fitness’ and ‘family’ it was time to call it a day.

Ben has been hosting the obstacle course series alongside co-star Rebecca Maddern since it launched in 2017.

The show will commence its sixth season in 2022.

A replacement for Ben is yet to be announced, however Confidential claims AFL legend Shane Crawford could be in with a good shot.

Meanwhile, on the radio front, Fordham, who dethroned KIIS FM’s Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson in the last survey earlier this month, has maintained his leading share in Sydney’s breakfast market with 18.9 per cent, growing his audience by an impressive 2 points.

Coming in second was outgoing ABC duo Wendy Harmer and Robbie Buck, who grew by 1.8 percent to earn a solid 15.7 per cent share.

Kyle And Jackie O placed third overall with 10.8 per cent after tumbling by 1.3 points.

The result is nothing short of a coup for Fordham, who replaced industry titan Alan Jones as host of 2GB’s breakfast show a year ago.

Despite the outcome, The Kyle and Jackie O Show still has plenty to celebrate.

The program continues to dominate the FM airwaves, earning more listeners than any other FM breakfast show in Australia.

The outcome also marks Kyle and Jackie O’s 22nd consecutive No. 1 spot on the FM bandwidth.

Overall, 2GB also dominated Sydney’s ratings, with listeners switching to AM during the recent Covid lockdown.

The station earned a whopping 16.4 per cent – the station’s highest ever outcome – jumping from 1.2 points since the last survey.

Nine Radio’s head of content Greg Byrnes has meanwhile referred to 2GB’s result as ‘extraordinary’.

‘It’s been a tough few months for Sydney… but the audience knows 2GB is the source of trusted news and opinion’, he said.

‘We’re proudly live and local and that’s seen a big jump in audience across the network.’
