Blue Wiggle Anthony Field has revealed the embarrassing moment he almost spilled red wine all over Michael Hutchence’s shirt at the ARIA Awards many years ago.

Recalling the ‘terrible’ incident on Wednesday, Field, 58, explained that he’d accidentally knocked a bottle of wine over while approaching the late INXS frontman at an ARIA ceremony in the nineties.

‘Years and years ago in the 90s, INXS were in the next table to us. And it was the days when you know, there was wine flowing,’ he told the I’ve Got News For You podcast.

‘And I went over to say hello, because we did a bit of … (in the) early days with The Cockroaches [Field’s former band], we used to tour with INXS, and in Redfern I lived around the corner from Michael.

Unfortunately, Field’s well-meaning attempt at saying hello soon devolved into chaos.

‘(Anyway) I went over to say hello and I knocked a bottle of red wine over the table. And it was terrible … the whole of INXS scattered, their girlfriends and wives … And um it was a funny moment,’ he admitted.

While still in their 20s, Field, along with original bandmates Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt, and Greg Page, all went to the United States to try to expand their fan base.

The move paid off, with the band eventually selling out Madison Square Garden in New York City.

That led to them meeting celebrity parents the likes of Robert De Niro and Jerry Seinfeld.

It comes after The Wiggles announced the addition of four new ‘diverse’ members to the band in August.
