Kim Kardashian convinces self-confessed selfie hater Anna Wintour to pose with her

On Tuesday, Dame Anna Wintour stooped to posing for a selfie – something she swore she’d never do – with none other than The Kardashians producer-star Kim Kardashian, and she even flashed a rare smile and peace sign.

The 41-year-old SKKN/SKIMS CEO – who boasts 431.3M social media followers – captioned her Instagram/Facebook slideshow: ‘BOBBSEY TWINS!’

Kim bumped into the British 72-year-old the same day she taped a TODAY interview at 30 Rockefeller Center in Midtown Manhattan, but the Vogue offices are located five miles South at One World Trade Center.

A rare smile! On Tuesday, Dame Anna Wintour stooped to posing for a selfie – something she swore she’d never do – with none other than The Kardashians producer-star Kim Kardashian

Back in 2014, Anna proudly declared, ‘I’ve never taken a selfie and I don’t plan to start now’ when asked to at the end of her Vogue 73 Questions interview.

That includes taking selfies with Wintour’s 37-year-old son Charles Shaffer and 34-year-old daughter Bee Carrozzini as well as her three grandchildren Caroline, Ella, and Oliver.

But the Vogue editor-in-chief had no problem playing thinly-veiled versions of herself in Niclas Larsson’s two Magic Diner shorts (2018), Ocean’s Eight (2018), and Zoolander 2 (2016).

Anna also serves as chair of the Met Gala (originated by her predecessor Diana Vreeland) and, in 2015, Page Six reported that ‘the use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala.’

Perhaps this is precisely why the celebrity annual bathroom selfie became such a staple of the posh Costume Institute benefit. (2016)

Wintour didn’t let Kim into the Met Gala until 2013 and she didn’t land a Vogue cover until 2014 – all thanks to the star power of her then fiancé and secret stylist, Kanye West.

The April 2014 cover drew outrage from readers and celebs like Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the Condé Nast global CCO defended her decision in an editor’s letter.

‘Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that,’ Anna wrote.

‘I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?). There’s barely a strand of the modern media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master.’

It took five more years before Kardashian scored her first solo American Vogue cover after Radar Online claimed in 2012 that Wintour ‘hated Kim’ and ‘would allow Kim Kardashian on the cover of Vogue over her dead body.’
