Melanie plans on continuing to act, but to take on more roles like her part in BBC One drama The Syndicate, which will allow her to have more time between projects.
She explained that working on a soap was ‘relentless’ as you are always on call and rarely have time to stop.
This was coupled with the desire to take care of her her 88-year-old mother Sylvia in Sunderland.
She also worried that she’s not spending enough time with her grandchildren Bowie, five, and Daisy May, three, who live in Melbourne, Australia.
Melanie first appeared in Coronation Street in 2015 when she was introduced as a potential love interest for Roy Cropper.
She said at the time: ‘My family and I grew up watching it and to actually be working on it is a dream come true.’
She also revealed that Corrie bosses have left the window open for her to return to the soap, as they have not killed her character off, for which she was ‘flattered and grateful.’
