The accompanying photo featured all of the items from the makeshift dinner Charlie Brown, Snoopy and Linus prepares for their friends: toast, popcorn, pretzels, jelly beans and an ice cream sundae with a cherry on top.

The original 25-minute special aired on the CBS network in 1973, and became an annual staple, though the network skipped the special in 1982, 1983 and 1988.

The special later moved to Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel in the 1990s, before ultimately shifting to ABC, along with the other Peanuts holiday specials, 1965’s A Charlie Brown Christmas, and 1966’s It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

ABC aired all three specials on or near Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas every year from 2001 to 2019.

The specials all continued to be regular ratings hits, even decades after they originally aired.
