The Strictly Come Dancing judges have revealed their Christmas traditions ahead of the show’s festive special.
Motsi Mabuse admitted that she starts getting festive in September, while Shirley revealed she starts getting organised with gifts in October.
Craig Revel Horwood said it’s the first of December when he begins preparations while Anton Du Beke starts looking forward to party season after Bonfire Night.

Shirley told of how this year’s celebrations are going to look: ‘For dinner it will be my mum, myself, Danny [Taylor] and my little dog Charlie – we always set a place for my brother.
‘After dinner we have a drink and play some games, but if my son was here we’d normally have a sing-song.’
Craig said he will be spending the big day ‘by the sea near Southampton due to working in Panto at the Mayflower Theatre as we only get Christmas Day off!’
While Motsi said: ‘This year the whole family will be in South Africa for Christmas at my parents’ house, and we’ll just be catching up!’

Anton is also taking part in a pantomime and said he will be ‘at home because it’s my one day off because I’m in Panto at Richmond Theatre playing Buttons. So it will be a lovely day spent with the children and Hannah [Summers] – I can’t wait.’
The songs which get them on the dance floor in the festive season vary from judge to judge with Shirley admitting Dancing Queen by ABBA is one of her favourites.
Craig said: ‘My new single ‘It’s Christmas, Merry Christmas’ It’s a fabulous jive to dance around the Christmas tree too.’
Motsi dished: ‘I love Christmas songs, but like the whole world, I think my favourite is Mariah Carey All I want for Christmas is You.’

They then went on to share their favourite Christmas cracker jokes with Shirley saying: ‘Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side! Same one every year…’
Craig joked: ‘Why is it so difficult to train dogs to dance? They have two left feet!’
All the judges are looking forward to the return of the Christmas special, with Anton saying: ‘I LOVE the Christmas special – it’s marvellous, the songs are great and the costumes are amazing. I’m slightly disappointed that I’m judging as I’d love to be dancing in it because I love it so much.
‘And, you can’t get voted off, that’s what I love about it most! I’m looking forward to judging in it though and dressing up, I don’t know what costume I’m going to be in yet but it will be something fabulous. ‘

While Motsi said: ‘I am so looking forward to the return of the Strictly Christmas special, because I really like that part of after we know the winner, to have a last goodbye before the next season.’
Craig expressed: ‘Yes I just love the whole festive sparkle it brings, it’s so joyful and you’re able to forget all your problems.’
Shirley said ‘I think people love to sit down with a glass of wine on Christmas Day, after eating too much Christmas pudding, and watch the magic that Strictly is. They know that this is the final bit of Strictly they’re going to get before it starts again the following year.’

The pair will compete against former Bake Off presenter Mel Giedroyc, First Dates’ Fred Sirieix and The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades.

Moira, who will be partnered by Aljaz Skorjanec, has a lifelong love of dance and said: ‘I’m really looking forward to the Strictly Christmas special.
She hilariously added: ‘I’ve loved dancing for as long as I can remember. In fact it even helped me try to keep warm in my early coldwater flat…’
Meanwhile the Birthday songstress is ‘excited’ about the opportunity, particularly because she’s been teamed up with professional dancer Graziano Di Prima.
She said: ‘I’m excited to take part in the Strictly Christmas special. I love the show, and who would turn down a dance with Graziano?!’
Strictly’s Christmas Special will air on BBC One on December 25.
