Tennis star Ash Barty stars in a chilling TV commercial for Uber Eats

Australia’s tennis golden girl Ash Barty, 25, will debut her acting skills on Sunday.

The women’s No.1 will feature in a chilling new TV campaign for Uber Eats, to run during the Australian Open.

According to the Sunday Herald Sun, the promotion sees Ash paying homage to 1980 psychological horror film The Shining, with ‘haunted ball girls and apparitions’.

Ash told the publication that despite her acting skills being ‘very limited’, it was ‘fine’ to get herself ‘out of the comfort zone’.

‘I’m a tennis player, not an actor, and it’s fine to push myself and get out of the comfort zone a little bit. The crew and the team made me feel really welcome, and most of all, we had fun,’ she said.

Ash also joked that she didn’t take acting lessons, saying: ‘I just roll with it, mate.’

Earlier this week, Ash revealed the unusual post-match meal she swears by, involving a bizarre blend of two ‘iconic Aussie’ treats combined.

The athlete told 9Honey that she likes to mix a classic chicken parmigiana meal with a condiment many would frown upon – a dollop of Vegemite.

Ash brands the dish the ‘Barty Parmy’, which involves the fried schnitzel being slathered with a generous drizzle of Vegemite on top of the cheese, before it’s placed in the oven for five minutes.

Ash told the publication she came up with the idea alongside the Vegemite team, saying: ‘I think a parmy and Vegemite are both iconically Australian. To create a dish where we combined the two felt like a good idea.’

‘Vegemite on toast makes me feel at home, it’s one of those home comforts you really appreciate when you are far away,’ she added, before confirming she likes to take a tub in her bag for whenever she travels.

She also said that she likes to eat the dish when celebrating a win, and will team it with different sides depending on whether she’s training or not.

‘When I’m training I’d say a salad would be the best side,’ she said. ‘When I’m not training, probably chips and salad!’

Ash, who withdrew from the Sydney Tennis Classic to head straight to Melbourne to prepare for the Australian Open, has had a lot to celebrate in recent months.

In November, it was revealed that Ash had become engaged to her boyfriend-of-five-years, Garry Kissick.

Ash announced the news in an Instagram post, sharing two photos of the pair cuddled up together with her diamond ring on display.

Ash wrote in the caption, ‘Future Husband’, alongside a ring emoji.

Golfer Gary, 29, also shared the images to his own social media, revealing that the pair had actually become engaged a week prior, on November 15.

He wrote in his caption: ’15/11/2021 love you @ashbarty’.

The Australian tennis star met Gary at Brooklands Golf Club in Queensland in 2016 during a round of golf, and they have been together since.
