Man United: Ralf Rangnick urges Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek to stay at Old Trafford

Ralf Rangnick has urged Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek to stay at Manchester United with interim manager reassuring the out-of-favour duo they WILL get more game time

Ralf Rangnick has told Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek that he would prefer them to stay at Manchester United until the end of the season rather than going out on loan this month – but understands both players’ frustration.

Henderson has played just twice this season and wants to leave after losing his No.1 spot to David de Gea.

Rangnick said: ‘I told him I would like him to stay because he is a fantastic goalkeeper. In training yesterday, he had a couple of fantastic saves.

‘I can fully understand he wants to play. I would really like to have him on board as one of three top goalkeepers.

‘He’s at an age where you should regularly play, but we are in three competitions. I can understand his desire to get regular game-time and be a No.1 elsewhere in the Premier League.’

Van de Beek has continued to play a bit-part role under United’s interim manager after being given limited opportunities by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and remains concerned about his place in the Holland team ahead of this year’s World Cup.

Rangnick added: ‘It’s the same situation as it is with Dean. I’m glad to have him in the squad. He came on against Aston Villa (in the FA Cup on Monday) and did well. He’s always performing at a high level in training.

‘I had a conversation with him after training two weeks ago and advised him to stay until the end of the season.

‘Of course, with the World Cup coming up in the winter, he wants to play. Louis van Gaal has told him that to be a regular starter he needs to play for his team.

‘I can fully understand his desire to play but, on the other hand, we have a lot of competition in our squad in those positions.’
