Manchester City have NOT entered race for £66m RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol

Manchester City have NOT entered the race for £66m RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, with German side attempting to persuade 20-year-old to sign new deal amid Chelsea interest

Despite reports to the contrary, Manchester City are not currently looking to sign highly-rated RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

The Citizens are in the market for a fullback after losing Oleksandr Zinchenko, and have recently been linked with Marc Cucurella and Sergio Gomez.

Gvardiol’s signature is being chased by Chelsea, who are very interested in the 20-year-old, while Tottenham have pulled out of the race after deeming him too expensive.

Josko Gvardiol was a key player for RB Leipzig last season, playing 46 games for the club

Meanwhile, Leipzig are keen to hang on to the fullback and want him to commit to a new contract.

The Croatia international was a key player for the German side last year, playing 46 games across all competitions as they won the DFB-Pokal and made a Europa League semi final.

German newspaper Bild reported that City had made a £66 million bid for Gvardiol, but this is thought to be incorrect.

For Chelsea, bringing in another big-name signing would be an excellent statement ahead of the new season.

Gvardiol’s versatility would also be an asset for the Blues, as they are in need of cover at centre back after losing Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

They will be hoping to complete the signing quickly to give the 20-year-old some time to settle in before the start of the Premier League this weekend.
