Manchester United: Alan Shearer ‘calls Marcus Rashford to help him get out of slump’

Alan Shearer ‘calls Marcus Rashford to help him get out of Man United slump – as Newcastle legend offers tips on handling the pressure and backs forward to emerge on top again soon’

Alan Shearer has reportedly reached out to Marcus Rashford with advice in how to rise from his current Manchester United malaise.

Rashford has failed to score in his last 11 outings for the Red Devils and has only completed two of his 10 starts since returning from a shoulder injury in October.

The 24-year-old’s body language has been routinely questioned by pundits and fans too – with many citing an unhappy figure within Ralf Rangnick’s under-performing squad.

He hit another low point when fans turned on him during Monday’s FA Cup win over Aston Villa .

And according to the Sun, Shearer – who was a BBC pundit at Old Trafford on Monday – has called Rashford to help him get out of his slump.

They report that the Newcastle legend ‘offered him tips on handling the pressure and expectation’ and ‘convinced him that he can come through’ this rough patch.

They finish by reporting that Shearer offered his services to Rashford whenever he needed to chat in the future.

As revealed exclusively by Sportsmail, Rashford faces a big decision over his future at Manchester United as he prepares to open talks over a new contract.

He has 18 months left on his current £200,000-a-week deal – although United have the option to extend it by another year – and negotiations are expected to begin before the end of the season.

The England forward remains committed to his boyhood club but while he would prefer to stay at Old Trafford, the next contract will cover the peak years of his career and he must decide whether to remain loyal or pursue a fresh challenge. He is also still yet to nail down a definite position.

United’s choice of new manager could also be a factor. Rangnick is set to step down as interim boss at the end of the season, and there is a feeling that Rashford would benefit from a man manager like Mauricio Pochettino.
