Marc Cucurella’s Chelsea move will be worth up to a staggering £62MILLION… with Spanish defender on the brink of signing after passing his medical as Blues youngster Levi Colwill gets set to join Brighton on loan

Marc Cucurella’s move to Chelsea is on the verge of completion in a deal worth up to £62million.

The Brighton defender completed a medical with the west London side in the capital on Thursday.

Versatile Spanish star Cucurella, 24, is set to make the switch for an initial £55m, plus a potential £7m in bonuses.

In a separate but connected deal, Blues centre half Levi Colwill is expected to join Brighton on loan for the season.

It is understood the initial delay in confirming Cucurella’s move to Chelsea was being held up by negotiations over the terms of Colwill’s move to Graham Potter’s side.

Cucurella, who can play at left centre back, left back or left wing-back, would act as cover for Ben Chilwell and potentially compete for a starting option at left centre back, where Chelsea are light after the departure of Antonio Rudiger on a free.

The deal could also have implications for Marcos Alonso – currently Chilwell’s understudy – with Barcelona keen to finalise a deal for the Spaniard.

At the moment, Chelsea’s lack of cover for the England star, who spent much of last season injured, is a major reason in their unwillingness to sell Alonso to the LaLiga giants.

Cucurella had handed in a transfer request last week after seeing Manchester City thwarted in their attempts to sign him for under £40m.
